Eamon Ali

I first photographed actor Eamon Ali during his performance in 'A Clockwork Orange' at the Southwark Playhouse.  Before he moves to Berlin I've had the chance to capture him again.  This is the first portrait from the shoot with more to follow.

Self-Portrait - Single Exposure

This self-portrait was taken in the same way as the single-exposure portrait of Tom.  I'm not sure if its outlook is optimistic or pessimistic.  The left side seems to suggest a strong position while the right side has a desperate quality.  I guess sometimes we have these dual feelings.

I'm currently inspired by this song... Music has a huge influence on my photography work so I felt it was important to include what I am listening to right now.

English Rose

With the Queen's jubilee last month I went crazy for a bit of 50's glamour and union jack tomfoolery. Charlotte was around for the Hollywood portrait shoot and happily took on the role of English rose.

Volpone

One of my latest commissions was to take the image for the Fire Under The Horizon production of 'Volpone'.  The Jacobean play written by Ben Jonson will be showing upstairs at The Gatehouse in Highgate Village, London during August.

The idea for the image was that Thomas Judd who plays Volpone would be morphing into a different character and struggling with his perceived identity.  I'm reminded of a statue, some kind of alabaster god, in my favourite image (above) from the shoot.

Best of British

Joseph Larkowsky returns for my latest fashion shoot.  I was taking inspiration from the photographic snapshots of the early 1980's for the finish of the photograph.  The bevelled edges of the print and plastic wallet gives a vintage feel to the final image.  The fashion also took inspiration from the same period.  Quintessentially British...

Single Exposure

My latest portrait of Tom was taken with one frame.  The effect wasn't created in post-production.  The image is similar to my 'Dream Sequence' set of Philippa but with Tom I was less focussed on movement, concentrating more on getting three individual portraits in the one frame.

Copy-Kat!

Katerina Jebb has always been one of my favourite image makers.  She has become known for her use of industrial sized photocopiers and scanners.  I used my tiny desktop scanner for this mini-tribute to her work.  Its a self-portrait.

Perfume & Leather

I've looked to Herb Ritts for inspiration for my latest shoot.  Herb Ritts was one of the most sought after fashion and portrait photographers of the 80's and 90's shooting mostly black and white, iconic images which referenced the greek gods and goddesses.  On a personal level Herb Ritts is one of the main reasons why I am in love with creating images.  His image of Oivia Newton-John on the cover of 'Physical' and Madonna's 'True Blue' are etched on my mind.  It was his photograph of Belinda Carlisle in 1989 that really took hold of me.  I've used this as a reference point.  Philippa and I hope to transport you back to 1992 with this shoot.. where the women were sexy and proud.

Dream Sequence

Its not often that everything flows perfectly on a shoot.. like a dream. Philippa is my favourite subject to shoot. We know each other so well and instinctively seem to know what the other is thinking. This definitely helps the creative process. In this shoot, which was purely for pleasure, I was trying to capture the state of transition. Philippa has recently moved to London leaving friends and family behind. I wanted the photos to represent the kind of uncertainty that surrounds change. There is a sense of leaving something behind but also a positivity in moving forward.

Hollywood Portrait

I've been working on my own set of hollywood style portraits ever since I went to see the Glamour of the Gods exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery last year. Here is the first one. Thanks to Tom, my ever patient subject.
